Introduction of carbon fiber tube strength

Carbon fiber composite materials have many advantages such as light weight and high strength, and carbon fiber tubes are made by winding, rolling, and pultrusion.

It is widely used in aerospace, drones, sports equipment, musical instruments, medical equipment, etc. The carbon fiber tube mainly relies on the tensile stress of carbon fiber to bear the load, and its strength needs to be tested before application. Many people know little about the strength of carbon fiber tubes, so this article will give a brief introduction. We have a wide range of carbon fiber tubes, for example, the pultruded carbon fiber tube, carbon fiber round tube, large carbon fiber tubing, etc.

The production process of carbon fiber tubes is different, and the product strength is also different.

Taking T700 carbon fiber and resin as raw materials, the carbon fiber tube produced by the winding molding process is used as an example, and the carbon fiber tube with a size of 1.6*50*500mm is tested. It can be found that the average compressive strength of the carbon fiber tube can reach 230MPa, and it will be Brittle failure occurs, and it can be seen that the strength of the matrix determines the strength of the carbon fiber tube.
In the tensile strength test, it was found that the carbon fiber tube can withstand a tensile strength of more than 800MPa, and the maximum strain is 0.03, which shows that the tensile strength of the carbon fiber tube is extremely excellent.
Compared with steel pipe, the tensile strength advantage of carbon fiber pipe is very obvious, and it can also reduce the weight by about 50%. But the brittleness of carbon fiber tubes limits their performance and applications.

The stiffness of itself will be seriously reduced under impact and pressure damage, and the lack of toughness is the biggest disadvantage of carbon fiber composites.

Compared with metal materials, carbon fiber composite materials have the characteristics of anisotropy, so during post-processing, delamination, tearing, burrs and other phenomena are prone to occur. For the connection of carbon fiber tubes, FUTURE recommends using structural glue or punching and wire screw sleeves for processing. In addition to ensuring the stability of the connection, it can also maintain the bearing capacity of carbon fiber products.
