PMI foam production process and characteristics

4.1

PMI foam is a lightweight, high-performance foam material widely used in aircraft, spacecraft, and other fields.

Its production process is as follows:

1. Raw material preparation: The main raw material of PMI foam is polymethylisorolenitrile (PMI), which needs to be heated to a liquid state before making.

2. Pressurized injection molding: inject the heated PMI liquid into the pressurized injection molding machine, and inject it into the mold through high pressure.

3. Hardening: After injection molding, the PMI foam needs to be hardened. Generally, heating is used to harden it in the mold to form a complete foam structure.

4. Cutting: After hardening, the foam is removed from the mold, and then cut and separated using equipment such as a cutting machine or a wire rope.

The above is the production process of PMI foam. This process requires advanced technology and equipment such as high-pressure injection molding for production. Therefore, parameters such as temperature, pressure, and time need to be strictly controlled during manufacturing to ensure the quality and performance of PMI foam.

4.2

PMI foam has the following performance characteristics:

1. Excellent mechanical properties. The specific strength and specific modulus are higher than PU and PVC.

2. Excellent chemical corrosion resistance.

3. Good compatibility with other resins.

4. Easy to machine.

5. Easily thermoformed.

6. Good fire resistance.
