Is pitch-based carbon fiber inferior to PAN-based carbon fiber?

There are three main raw materials for carbon fiber materials, which are polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-based, pitch-based and viscose-based. Among them, PAN-based carbon fiber is more widely used because of its simple production process and excellent performance, while bitumen-based and viscose-based are less used. So bitumen-based is considered inferior to PAN-based in terms of performance, what is the actual situation?

The materials used to prepare asphalt-based carbon fibers are isotropic asphalt fibers and intermediate phase asphalt fibers. Isotropic asphalt fiber prepared out of the general-purpose asphalt-based carbon fiber look; and intermediate-phase asphalt fiber prepared out of the high-performance asphalt-based carbon fiber.

High-performance asphalt-based carbon fiber compared to polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fiber, what are the advantages?

1, high thermal conductivity: thermal conductivity of up to 600 ~ 1100W / (m﹒K), is the polyacrylonitrile-based graphite fiber 4 to 5 times;

2, high modulus: modulus has reached 950GPa, is about 92% of the theoretical value, equivalent to polyacrylonitrile-based graphite fiber about 1.5 times;

3、Small expansion coefficient: zero expansion products can be produced.

High-performance asphalt-based carbon fiber is widely used in the hot end parts of hypersonic vehicles, large-area thin plate structures of space vehicles, heat dissipation parts of electronic instrument bins, force arms of new-generation intelligent robots and other fields.
