The full name of aramid fiber is “aromatic polyamide fiber”, which refers to a long-chain synthetic polyamide fiber in which more than 85% of the amide bonds are directly connected to the benzene ring, and the amide bonds are connected to aromatic rings or derivatives of aromatic rings.
1. What is para-aramid?
The full name of para-aramid fiber is “poly-paraphenylene terephthalamide” (PPTA) fiber, which is an organic polymer fiber synthesized from terephthaloyl chloride and p-phenylenediamine. The No. 1 and No. 4 positions are also called aramid 1414.
Para-aramid has excellent properties such as high specific strength, high specific modulus, high-temperature resistance, and flame retardancy, and is known as the world’s three high-performance fibers together with carbon fiber and high-strength high-modulus polyethylene.
2. Advantages of para-aramid fiber
The main outstanding advantages of para-aramid are its high strength and high modulus. Its tensile strength is 6 times that of steel wire, its tensile modulus is 2~3 times that of steel wire and glass fiber, and its density is only one-fifth of that of steel wire. It is mainly used in safety protection, bulletproof, rubber product reinforcement, high-strength cables, And asbestos friction material replacement.
3. Application of para-aramid fiber
1. Para-aramid fiber has excellent ballistic performance. Aramid fabrics can be made into bulletproof vests and explosion-proof blankets and can be compounded with resin to make hard helmets and armor explosion-proof inner liners. Para-aramid also has excellent cut resistance, heat resistance, and abrasion resistance. Used as protective clothing and protective gloves can prevent fingers from being cut, rubbed, punctured, high temperature, and flame burns.
2. Para-aramid fiber can be used as composite material reinforcement, and can also be mixed with carbon fiber and glass fiber.
