As we all know, carbon fiber is a material with very good performance, which has the advantages of high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, friction resistance, high strength and light weight. Generally speaking, the heavier the material, the stronger it will be. For example: metal, plastic, but the weight of carbon fiber is only a quarter of that of steel, but its strength is several times higher than it. Where does the high strength of carbon fiber come from?

Is carbon fiber toxic

The reason why carbon fiber has such a high strength is generally believed to be due to the neat arrangement of carbon atoms. Moreover, the finer the fiber, the greater its relative strength, because there are fewer defects on the thin fiber, which increases the area of the layered structure. And stacking them layer by layer can improve the hardness modulus of the fiber. A fiber with a high modulus of hardness is like a very hard spring. When a large load is applied, its elongation is very small. The combination of high hardness and high strength expands the application range of carbon fiber. The development trend of carbon fiber is that the strength is getting higher and higher. For example, in the 1980s, 3000MPa carbon fiber was mainly used. In the late 1990s, the strength of the fiber reached 7000MPa, and it began to be used in engineering. It is estimated that the theoretical strength of carbon fiber can reach 150GPa.

Carbon fiber is so good that it can be used to make the hulls of racing boats that need to withstand the beating of huge waves without deforming. Carbon fiber can not only be processed into mechanical parts, sporting goods, building materials, but also decorations such as necklaces and jewelry.
