"Black Gold"! China's first large-tow carbon fiber production line was successfully put into operation

          A few days ago, the first domestic production line of China's first 10,000-ton 48K large tow carbon fiber project produced qualified products, which means that China's large tow carbon fiber has moved from key technological breakthroughs, industrial trial production, and industrialization to large-scale production.

          In the carbon fiber industry, the number of carbon fibers per bundle greater than 48,000 (referred to as 48K) is usually called large tow carbon fiber. Large tow carbon fiber is known as the "king of new materials" and "black gold", and is used in wind energy, solar energy, high-speed trains, aircraft parts and other industries.

          According to reports, the large tow carbon fiber put into production this time is a new high-strength fiber material with a carbon content of more than 95%. Its mechanical properties are excellent, its specific gravity is less than a quarter of that of steel, its strength is 7 to 9 times that of steel, and it is also resistant to corrosion. In addition, the advantage of 48K large tow carbon fiber is that under the same production conditions, it can greatly improve the single-line production capacity and quality performance of carbon fiber, reduce production costs, and break the application limitations caused by the high price of carbon fiber.

         Industry insiders said that carbon fiber technical barriers are relatively serious. For a long time, China's carbon fiber development has mainly achieved breakthroughs in small tow carbon fibers, but the high cost of small tow carbon fibers has affected the enthusiasm of downstream enterprises to apply carbon fibers.

         Sinopec has cooperated with more than 10 universities, research institutes and enterprises. After more than ten years of hard work, from equipment to technology, we have customized a special production line for large tow, and achieved a breakthrough in carbon fiber from 12K to 48K. "Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Deputy General Manager Huang Xiangyu introduced that the Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Carbon Fiber Industrial Base is planned to be fully completed and put into production in 2024, with a total capacity of 24,000 tons/year of raw silk and 12,000 tons/year of large tow carbon fiber production capacity, meeting the needs of China domestic demand in various fields.
